Roles of APT Officers and Chairpersons
DPM APT Officers:
PRESIDENT
Conducts monthly DPM APT meetings. Attends monthly district-wide Executive APT Board meetings. Consults with DPM Principals on current issues. Oversees all APT sponsored events and committees.
VP/COMMUNICATIONS
Assists President as needed. Meets with Administration for planning and runs meetings in the absence of the President.
Responsible for ensuring that APT communications (DPM APT Website, Facebook etc.) are correct, consistent and moved quickly from Committee Chairs to principals for distribution.
TREASURER
Keeps DPM APT budget and records expenditures. Submits reimbursement requisitions to APT Executive Board Treasurer. Runs meetings in absence of the President.
SECRETARY
Handles correspondence for APT. Prepares agenda for each meeting. Collects committee reports, updates calendar items, types and posts minutes generated by monthly DPM APT meetings. Runs meetings in the absence of the President.
DPM APT Committee Chairpersons:
ART FAIR
Organizes a multimedia student art fair; including publicity, check-in, display and return of student's artwork. The contributions are judged and given awards by both Deer Path Art League members and the DPM staff. Orders and distributes ribbons for entries.
BOARD OF EDUCATION LIAISON
Attends the District 67 Board of Education meetings and reports back to the DPM APT Board. Provides information on legislation concerning educational issues. Attends Curriculum Advisory Council meetings.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Implement district-wide Community Service programing at DPM. Examples include the Thanksgiving Food and School Supply Drives. May support additional Community Service projects as requested by DPM students and/or staff.
CULTURE FAIR
Assist District 67 SSME Coordinator in the implementation of 5th & 6th Grade Social Studies Culture Fairs. Attend planning meetings, coordinate parent volunteers, and assist in running the fairs. (2 committees)
DIRECTORY
Works to register all DPM students to be included in the District 67 Student Directory. Collects all membership and directory change forms from DPM secretaries.
EFFORT
The EFFORT committee is made up of students, parents, faculty and administration and works to improve school spirit, recognize positive student contributions, and enhance the climate and culture of DPM. EFFORT has an open enrollment policy and its members represent their classmates' views at bi-monthly meetings. Plans and leads school festivals, field days and runs the school store.
EMOTIONAL WELLNESS COMMITTEE
Attend committee meetings throughout the school-year to share information regarding social emotional culture and climate within DPM and to raise awareness with the parent community through APT meetings and Parent Awareness programs of the social emotional character development work being done in our district and DPM specifically.
FIFTH GRADE WELCOME
Helps the Where Everyone Belongs (WEB) Day DPM Staff Committee with any needs for the 1/2 day 5th grade WEB Day event that is typically held a few days prior to school starting each year.
FINE ARTS
Serves as hosts for the in-school performances sponsored by APT & funded by the Spirit of 67. Handles publicity and collects evaluations. May help in selecting next year's programs by previewing potential artists.
FOOD SERVICE
Attends Quest Food Service meetings and is a liaison to parents and students for food service requests and questions. Coordinates activities for National Nutrition month.
GRADUATION ACTIVITIES
Coordinates 8th grade graduation subcommittees for the graduation activities including; fundraising efforts, dance, school year memories DVD, class gift, and many more. The goal is to include all students in the planning and preparation of these activities under the guidance of the various Parent Committee Chairpersons, as well as establishing a way for the 8th graders to give back to their community.
LFHS APT LIAISON
Attends monthly Lake Forest High School APT meetings and reports back to the DPM APT Board.
MEMBERSHIP
Works on annual membership drive in conjunction with the APT Executive Board Membership Chair. Distributes the DPM Student Directories to all DPM students who purchased one.
NEW FAMILIES
Helps orientate students and their families to DPM. Helps the principal to coordinate and host an initial gathering and tour of Deer Path Middle School in August. Hosts additional new family events during the year.
PARENT AWARENESS
Works in conjunction with LEAD; attends monthly LEAD meetings and reports upcoming activities at the DPM APT meetings. Helps plan and host a DPM sponsored parent educational program during the year.
PHOTOGRAPHERS
Photographs various APT and DPM school events and activities to be used on the DPM APT and District 67 websites as well as other local publications.
RECREATION CENTER/OPEN LANDS
Attends monthly Lake Forest Recreation Center and quarterly Open Lands Board meetings and reports activities and concerns at the DPM APT meetings.
ROOM PARENT COORDINATOR
Coordinates the selection of two room parents for each homeroom including band, chorus and orchestra. Runs a room parent meeting at the beginning of the school year.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Promotes and answers questions concerning the school supply order program. Helps to coordinate delivery of the school packs when they arrive at DPM in August.
SOCIAL
Organizes conference luncheons, coffees, snacks and teacher appreciation activities for the teachers/staff through out the year. Coordinates the year end DPM APT incoming/outgoing board brunch and assists with other social events as needed.
SPIRIT OF 67 LIAISON
Serves as voting members of the Spirit of 67 Board and reports all of the Spirit of 67 events, activities and concerns at the DPM APT Board meetings.
SPIRITWEAR
A coordinated effort with other District 67 schools, this committee is responsible for selecting the new and returning items of clothing that will wear the Deer Path logos, and advertising the annual sale to the students, parents and teachers early in the school year. Kiddles, our main vendor, provides the on-line ordering system, prints and distributes the clothes, with assistance from committee members.

Accumulates and generates lists of parent volunteers from DPM APT Volunteer Forms and forwards to various APT chairpersons. Solicits volunteers to assist in various activities, such as picture day and curriculum night.

Serves as host to authors of children's books that have been invited by the Executive APT Board Chair and Director of Media Services. Meets with DPM principal to coordinate authors' visits. Also handles the book orders and all public relations before the event.
